Evaluating Corridor Operations

In order to understand both how the I-210 corridor operates and how well it operates, the project team developed a detailed inventory of the corridor's transportation systems, management assets, and current operational status, including:

  • Traffic detection systems (traffic sensors, CCTV camera systems, Bluetooth travel time monitoring systems)
  • Traffic management systems (signal controller types, type of signal operations, centralized traffic signal control systems)
  • Traveler information systems (changeable message signs, 511 systems, etc.)
  • Transit systems (light-rail systems, express commuter buses, commuter rail)
  • Parking systems (park-and-ride lots, general parking facilities)
  • Operations (travel demand, bottlenecks, travel times, safety)

This enabled the team to:

  1. Assess the health of corridor systems
  2. Get a more comprehensive understanding of the corridor, including problem areas
  3. Begin identifying the needs of corridor users
